The ball hits the bat= ter outside of the strike zone

 

When the ball hits th= e batter and the batter is outside of the strike zone the plate umpire shall call &#= 8220;TIME”.  The ball is now dead and no r= unners can advance. The umpire then sends the batter to 1st base.  Once the player has reached 1= st base, and the pitcher is ready to pitch, the batter is ready to bat, and the catcher is ready to catch, the umpire will say “PLAY”.  This puts the ball back into play a= nd the ball is live.
